Lately, our family has been on a mission: to swap out prepackaged snacks and pantry staples for homemade alternatives that feel just as convenient—but are full of wholesome ingredients and budget-friendly. One of our favorite wins in this journey has been these homemade chocolate chip cookie dough bites.

They’re everything we love about chocolate chip cookies: warm, gooey, chocolatey, and just the right amount of sweet—but in a compact, freezer-friendly format that makes them easy to bake fresh anytime.  I mean who doesn’t love traditional cookies at a moments notice?!  

Our favorite cookie as a family is chocolate chip cookies, so why not have them always on hand?  These bite-sized treats actually make the best cookies, and can easily be given as the perfect gift to new neighbors or new mamas!  No one says no to chocolatey goodness, right?!

Cream room temperature butter, egg, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, and both sugars together in a stand mixer for 4–5 minutes until light and fluffy with a creamy texture.

In a separate bowl, combine all purpose flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture and mix with a rubber spatula until combined. Fold in chocolate chips.

Roll into small cookie dough balls and place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.  Sometimes I like to use a small cookie scoop to help get the correction proportions before rolling.

For make-ahead ease, freeze for 1 hour, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag.

Label your ziploc bag with: Bake at 350° for about 12 minutes.

Note: If you’re baking freshly mixed cookie dough, cut baking time to 10 minutes.

How to Serve

  • Warm from the oven – nothing beats a fresh cookie bite and a cold glass of milk
  • Mini ice cream sandwich cookies – simply sandwich a small scoop of vanilla ice cream between two cooled bites

Baking Tips & Variations

  • Sprinkle with sea salt before baking for that bakery-style touch
  • Swap chocolate chips for peanut butter chips if you’re a peanut butter lover, or mix the two for a flavor twist
  • You can also use mini chocolate chips
  • Don’t be afraid to double the batch and stock your freezer!

How to Freeze & Bake Later

This recipe is a freezer dream. Just follow these easy steps:

  • Roll dough into small balls and freeze on a baking sheet for about an hour
  • Transfer to a labeled, freezer-safe bag
  • Bake straight from the freezer at 350°F for about 12 minutes

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • cup flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • pinch of baking powder
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Cream together butter, egg, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, and both sugars for 4-5 minutes using a stand mixer. 
  • In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and a pinch of baking powder. Stir together. 
  • Add the dry ingredients into the wet and mix until well combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips.
  • Roll into small balls and place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • Pop them in the freezer for an hour, then place them in a freezer safe bag.
  • Label the bag with these baking directions: Bake at 350° for about 12 minutes.
