What You’ll Love About This Recipe

  • The great thing about this recipe is that you can easily use fresh or frozen blackberries.  When fresh blackberries are in season, I like to freeze them for recipes like this!
  • When I am short on time, this cobble is the perfect treat because it is so simple and easy to make, coming together in about 5 minutes.
  • I also love that this blackberry cobble feeds a crowd!  Sometimes you just need a quick, easy dessert that can feed a good number of people all at once!

Variations

  • Add a handful of blueberries or raspberries for a mixed berry twist.
  • Swap out the cream for buttermilk if that’s what you’ve got in the fridge.
  • Sprinkle a little extra sugar on top before baking for an extra golden crunch.

Key Ingredients

You’ll find the full list of ingredients in the recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here are a few key players.

  • Blackberries: Fresh or frozen (no need to thaw!)
  • Brown + Raw Sugar: The mix gives just the right sweetness and caramel flavor.
  • Lemon Juice: Brightens up the berries.
  • Melted Butter + Cream: The combo makes the topping soft, rich, and perfectly golden.

How to Make

This couldn’t be easier, truly.

Prepare the Filling–In a large bowl, combine blackberries, brown sugar, raw sugar, lemon juice, and flour. Gently stir until berries are evenly coated. Pour into a shallow Dutch oven (I use this one and love it for both baking and clean-up).

Make the Topping–In a separate bowl combine flour, raw sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon. In a small bowl, stir together melted butter and cream, then pour into dry ingredients and mix gently. Don’t over-stir—it should be crumbly.

Assemble & Bake–Sprinkle the topping evenly over the berries. Bake with the lid off at 350°F for about 25 minutes, until the berries are bubbling and the topping is golden brown. Note that it may take a little longer if you’re using frozen berries.

Cool & Serve–Let it sit for about 10 minutes (I know, it’s hard to wait!). Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream

Baking Tips

  • Use an enameled Dutch oven for easier cleanup (especially if little hands are helping!) or a cast iron dutch oven works as well.
  • Don’t overwork the topping—it’s meant to be rustic and crumbly.
  • Watch for that bubbly edge and golden top to know it’s done.
  • Store any leftovers (if there are any!) in the fridge for up to 3 days.

How To Serve

  • Always with vanilla ice cream—my kids are firm believers in this rule.
  • Or a dollop of homemade whipped cream if you’re feeling fancy.
  • For breakfast the next day? Don’t mind if I do. Warmed with a little yogurt on the side… bliss.
