Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, 1 stick
  • 5 large apples, granny smith
  • cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • pinch of nutmeg (1/16 tsp)
  • pinch of salt (1/16 tsp)

Instructions

  • Wash, core, and slice apples into pieces that are similar in size. Be sure they’re not too thin as thin apples will get mushy as they cook.  We prefer the peel left on our apples, but you can certainly remove it.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add butter.
  • Once the butter is melted, add the apples. Cover and cook over low heat for about 10 minutes until the apples are soft.Be sure to stir the apples often so that they don’t burn.
  • As the apples are cooking, mix together both sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
  • Remove the lid from the pan of apples and add the sugar mixture cooking for an additional 5-10 minutes until the sugar is dissolved and the apples are syrupy.
  • Serve warm as a side or over ice cream as a delicious dessert!
