Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup sourdough discard
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

The Crumb Middle Layer

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup butter melted

Instructions

  • Beat butter, sugar, and vanilla until fluffy. Add eggs, milk, sourdough discard, and sour cream. Mix until combined. Stir in flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined.
  • Combine flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Add melted butter and stir until lumpy.
  • Spread half the batter in a greased 9x9-inch pan. Sprinkle half the crumb topping, then add the remaining batter and crumb topping.
  • Bake at 350°F for 50-60 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool for 15 minutes before serving.
